1987 Mercedes 560SL For Sale

In 1986, Mercedes-Benz shipped its most powerful SL of the decade to the United States in the 560SL. The new 5.5-liter V-8 engines 227 hp was a new engine for this period of Mercedes. Top speed was much improved from 110 mph in the 380SL to 130 mph for the 560SL, and the car was quicker from a 0-60 mph by about four seconds. The engine was much torquier, which greatly improved the cars dynamics. The car received a new rear suspension and a limited-slip differential to better handle the added torque and power. Mercedes-Benz also added anti-lock brakes, leather upholstery, an alarm system, and an air bag, all of which better suited the cars $48,000 price tag. The 560SL did very well with sales. An average of 12,000 vehicles were sold each year. Mercedes retired the R107 from production in 1990. Many people gravitate towards the 560SL because it retains some of the lines of the pagodas and has the R107 advancements.
