1962 Mercedes 220SEb For Sale

Design of a replacement for the two-door Pontons began in 1957. Since most of the chassis and drivetrain were to be unified with the sedan, the scope was focused on the exterior styling. Mercedes chose the work of engineer Paul Bracq, which featured a more squarish, subtle rear end treatment, more evocative of the later squarish styling of the subsequent W108/109 than the sharp-edged tail fins of the sedan. Production began in late 1960, with the coupe making its debut at the 75th anniversary at the Mercedes Benz museum in February 1961. The convertible followed at the Frankfurt Auto Show a few months later. Almost identical to the coupe, its soft-top roof folded into a recess behind the rear seat and was covered by a tightly fitting leather boot in the same color as the seats. Unlike the previous generation of two-door ponton series, the 220SE designation was used for both the coupe and convertible. All 220E's were powered by a 2195 cc M127 engine.

This 1962 Mercedes 220SE Coupe has been with the same owner for the last 40 years. Has been in the dry states of California and New Mexico. From what was told to us he was the second owner. Has the original engine with an automatic transmission. The engine in the vehicle isn't currently turning but we have put lubricant in the motor to help free it up. Last time it was on the road was in the late 1980's. The wheels are all original to the vehicle and all the hubcaps are there. Has manual windows. This vehicle also comes with air conditioning. Has front disc brakes.

The interior on the vehicle is all there but will require work. The gauges are all present with the car and the original stereo is also there. Door glass on the vehicle is all in good shape as well as the rear glass. The front windshield does have some chips. Original Mercedes steering wheel. The seats are in very good condition. The chrome on the car is all there. Very solid car with only one area where there is some rust. Clean California title. Would make a great candidate for a restoration.
